The Final Run

"To everything there is a time and purpose…."

Rob’s Run, established to memorialize Rob Pedevilla, a native son of Gonzales whose dream it was to provide some financial assistance by way of grants to qualified individuals from the Salinas Valley and surrounding areas, who were experiencing a life-threatening health issue in their life after, his own personal experiences while battling leukemia. He knew what hurdles families encountered while going through a health-related issue and wanted to help others that were in the same situation.

Since its humble beginnings in 1992, the event has grown to be one of our area’s most successful "local" fundraisers and has continued to provide grants to scores of people who have had to stretch their already fragile budgets to cover the day to day household essentials such as rent, utilities, insurance, or gas, while going through an unexpected health issue and subsequent treatments, especially during these tough economic times.

 So, it is bittersweet to announce that the "20th Annual Rob’s Run & Family Fun Day",scheduled for Sunday, October 14, 2012, will be the "Final Run". We considered many factors in arriving at this decision – which was not an easy one to make nor taken lightly. From the downturn in the economy, to a reduction in the riders/participants, to the competition of fundraisers for other local causes. In the end, Rob’s family has stated that they graciously appreciate all that has been accomplished and provided to those in need since it began and that it has far exceeded their initial expectations. Our purpose has been well served.

The current Board of Directors would like to sincerely thank everyone who has ever taken part in the event over the years as a participant, donor, attendee, or volunteer – especially those who’ve been there since "Day One". The funds that are provided in the form of grants would not be possible without the dedication of each person involved. You have all been part of a much bigger picture – helping scores of people from our area who would’ve otherwise struggled a bit more financially, without our financial assistance during their time of need. With that, you have our unending gratitude and appreciation in helping to realize Rob’s dream!
